A dog named Jenny was the start of my Sport Dog Fun. My husband, Richard, rescued Jenny from the local shelter. Jenny didn’t get along with our dog, Buddy, so Sandy (my sister) was happy to take Jenny and give her a wonderful home. Sandy wanted to do something with her dog, so she asked me to go to a B.A.D. dog obedience class…it has never stopped from there
Kern Canine Activities (KCA) needed a place to have classes, so Sandy asked me if they could use my home. At that time, my back area was filled with old cars, junk, and huge ugly wood piles right in the middle. However, they didn’t care. So, the journey of dog sports at my home began.
KCA is a local dog club in Bakersfield that has classes in Agility, Barn Hunt, Dock Diving, Flyball, NASDA, Obedience, Scent Work and Trick Doggin’. They also hold Trials in Agility, Barn Hunt and NASDA.
One year I went to the Kern County Fair to watch Splash Dogs. That was my first introduction to Dock Diving Sports. Later, I was invited by my flyball coach to her home for flyball practice and dock time with our dogs. That inspired me to get a pool of my own. It took over four years before that happened, but I am glad to say I am really enjoying having my dog friends come and have fun with their dogs.
